Battle for the Castle is a sequel to The Castle In The Attic by Elizabeth Winthrop. It generally appeals to the grades 4-5 average reader.
Winthrop has a knack for capturing the reader's interest and this sequel returns the main character, 12 year old William, and his friend Jason to the medieval world of Sir Jim where
the two become involved in rescuing Sir Jim's kingdom from the evil forces of a giant rat. This makes an exciting read for students, and the tie-in to the Middle Ages makes it a
good curriculum support novel to study with a class. The Castle In the Attic is the first story, and it makes sense to read it first. However, the sequel does stand alone, and can
be read separately. The study guide published by MOD covers all the literary elements as well as offering a series of activities which link the story with curriculum tie-ins to the
history of the Middle Ages. Includes a bibliography of novels about the Middle Ages. |
